International Reporting In Hong Kong
In Spring 2015, I applied for and was selected by the Penn State College of Communications to travel to the other side of the world, and report on an in-depth story of my choosing in Hong Kong. I've always been passionate about movies, and Hong Kong is sometimes known as the "Hollywood of the East," so the topic for my story came naturally to me.
After months of research, planning and organizing, I finally embarked for Hong Kong during the second week of March. It was only my second ever trip on an airplane, so the 16-hour flight was a bit of a rude awakening, but certainly one that was worth it in the end. My week in Hong Kong included interviews with everyone in the film industry, from seasoned directors to amateur directors, film distributors and scholars.
Upon our return back, the job wasn't yet concluded. A lengthy post-trip process included transcribing hours of interviews, followed by a long writing and editing process to tighten up the story and ready it for publication. Finally, after the whole process was concluded, my story was finished.
